Happy Holiday Travels

This is a busy time of year for us at B&B Insurance, an independently owned and operated home, life and car insurance agency serving Palm Beach County. Before gassing up the car hitting the road for a turkey dinner that will be waiting for them at grandma’s house, sensible drivers are getting their cars checked out and making sure they have adequate car insurance for a Lake Worth, Boynton Beach or Lantana based road trip.

Of course, it’s a busy travel time, too. If you are traveling so that you can spend Thanksgiving with family or friends, you will be one of more than 55 million Americans that AAA says plan to travel 50 miles or more for the holiday.

Road Trips in Florida

Why would you want to make sure your Florida auto insurance policy is current and will cover you and your family if something should happen while you’re away from home? Well, here in Florida, nearly 2.9 million people will be traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday – with 2.6 million of them packing their bags and hitting what promise to be some very crowded roadways.

Four of the top 10 Thanksgiving travel destinations are in the Sunshine State, so in addition to all those Floridians on the highway, drivers will also have to contend with lots of out of state visitors.

AAA in collaboration with INRIX, the global leader in connected car services and transportation analytics, predicts major traffic delays throughout the week of Thanksgiving. Based on their predictions, Wednesday will be the busiest travel day. If you can’t avoid being on the road on Wednesday, at least try to avoid the afternoon rush hour. AAA and INRIX say it could take you as much four times longer than normal to get where you’re going due to the mix of commuters and holiday travelers.

“Florida drivers should expect the heaviest highway congestion on Wednesday, from 3 pm to 8 pm,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “AAA recommends drivers plan ahead, identify alternate routes in case there are back-ups, and leave early. Driving on Thanksgiving Day may not be ideal, but there are much fewer people on the road.” If you would like help planning your trip so that you can avoid the worst of the traffic, you can visit AAA.com/travel.
